  • GM6NX Weekly Meetings, Thursdays, Welcome to all visitors !! >

    GM6NX WEEKLY CLUB MEETING @ BANDEATH INDUSTRIAL ESTATE STIRLING

    ALL Visitors are welcome to the Club nights and other activities

    ==========================================

    * The evening

    Usually informal, arrive as you like with no pressure and plenty of friendly faces, but this is usually a pretty busy evening so is an excellent choice to meet everyone and to find like minded individuals or just have fun as well as operate some radio.

    We have members from all over most coming every week, if you need a lift I am sure if someone is coming from your area they will be pleased to help out.

    Car sharing is always a wise move these days anyway

    Please feel free to post a message and someone should get back to you.
    We have regular members from Alloa / Hillfoots, Stirling, St Ninians, Bannockburn, Denny, Falkirk, Camelon, Grangemouth and more.

    Tea and Coffee is usually available.

    Why not come for a visit if you haven't been before I am sure you will be very impressed with our antenna set up as well as our custom built shack.

    And remember, you do NOT have to be a licensed operator to visit, if you are thinking about ham radio and would like to become licensed; you are also more than welcome.

    Training programmes for your exams are also provided.

    Once the club closes some members also retire to the local drinking hole for a beer or two and some light general chat on their way home (after all radio talk all night is hard work) and anyone is welcome to join up there any evening. This is usually at the Halfway House (beside B&Q in Stirling)

    * 2010 activities agenda

    For 2010 there are also plans to also expand the club activities for field days and external events in co-operation with other communities as well as the possibility to experiment with some links in the GHz bands thanks to the generous donation of some microwave equipment (still needs work, creating a group project in itself).

    Activities will be posted to the club calendar as normal. Users are reminded that they CAN post their own events to the calendar AND are most welcome to take charge of their own events.

    We operate in several contests per year and usually do well in them. It is a great way to learn about lots of things like propagation antennas and operating.

    The club and the committee is there to service members requests, so whatever is needed, I am sure there will be plenty of volunteers to help, remember the committee is here to serve the membership, not the other way round, so speak up if you want some activity not listed, but be prepared to pitch in and manage it ;)

    Foundation, intermediate and advanced RCF training courses will also be stepped up to meet demand and the number of registered instructors will need to be increased.

    Not been for a while?

    If you haven't been in a while I am sure you will like the new club layout and general chit chat.

    Some evenings the topic of conversation is awesome and always someone amongst the members able to help others out if they have questions on almost everything possible

    Station capabilities

    Currently 3 separate HF stations exist for use by licensed members or used by visitors under supervision.

    These stations utilise a range of antennas including a 10 element log periodic at 60ft for 10-15-20, a single band 2 element beam for 40M and a 1/2 wave vertical for 80 or 1/4 wave vertical for 160M.

    There is also a multiband vertical used for an additional HF station as well as alternate dipoles etc for 30-40-80M

    Unfortunately for VHF there has not been time this year for much antenna work but there is a quad mounted for 6M but only verticals are in use for 2M and a small yagi for 70cm.

    But there is still a dedicated antenna and radio for repeater work and D-Star for anyone interested.

    Go on you know you want to come look see

    So if you have anything your not sure of whether it be radio computers antennas or life in general pay us a visit you wont regret it.

      Nice talking with you today Gerry. I looked up the sailing date and found that we will land in Dublin on the 29th of Aug. We plan to stay over a few days and am looking for interesting places to see there and Striling sounds like something we might want to see, although I have not look to see how far that is from Dublin. Also interested in any ham activities that we might take in if around the same date. Thanks again for the QSO and 73 to all club members. KY4RS, rogschmitt@yahoo.com

      Hi,
      just found your site and I was interested in how the Cobwebb got on?
      Obviously there are reviews all over the net, but I would rather know how a local build performed, Im planning on one this summer, so I guess christmas after next is a reasonable finish date!

      Like the site though!
